This is my tall vase project. It is a small vase with a narrow neck, a wide lip and a narrow body. It is glazed a dark shiny green. For this project I really had to work on pulling a tall cylinder, using choking to help achieve height because after a certain number of pulls I was not able to put my hands in the cylinder to make it taller. I also focused on pulling a uniform wall when making this vase. I really tried to focus on the form of this vase as I wanted to give it a certain shape which was the second thing that I kept in mind for this project. This vase demonstrates balance with the overall harmony between the glaze and the form which combined with the texture of the vase creates a feeling of balance. For this project I made a mug with a pulled handle that is about 5 inches tall and 3 1/2 inches wide with a nice rounded shape to it and a pretty rustic green glaze and some drips of blue all along the outside of the cup as well as all along the lip. To make this project I had to make sure to pull a handle which is something I need to practice. For this mug I mainly focused on pulling a handle that would function well with the proportion of my mug as well as practice my technique of creating a well compressed lip and pleasing to the eye mug shape. I'm very pleased with the overall form of my mug especially compared to past ones I have made. In addition I am proud of how well the handle suits the size of the mug both in thickness and scale. I feel like this mug looks very unified and harmonious because everything goes together well. When I was glazing my mug I decided to do a forest green with a cobalt blue lip which I allowed to drip down the exterior of my mug creating a beautiful contrast of value with the light green base and the drips of dark blue. This mug reminds me to relax and just go with the flow of life and to just let go. Especially with the glaze as it makes me feel grounded and calm with the two color combination.
