Sadly, as my theme project plates were drying over the weekend one of the plates cracked.... I had to throw it away:(

This is how my casserole dish turned out after putting it all together and reshaping it... Here's a bit of an analogy for you: EXPECTATIONS of what it would look like: REALITY of what it actually looks like:
I decided that for my hand and wheel project I would branch out and try to make a casserole type dish. So I threw a cylinder to the base of the bat so there was no bottom, then I am going to try to shape it into an oval and add a hand made bottom and some handles on the side. Today I trimmed and footed my set of two plates. I am not thrilled with the way the footing looks on them but I had to do a double foot ring so they would not slump in the kiln, although I think the double foot ring is ugly...
Today I made my set of two plates. I have never made a plate before and was initially kind of intimidated but it ended up working out really well and I am excited to see how they turn out in the end. I am also proud I was able to make them about the same size. I glazed my choice vase yesterday with a cobalt green and sydney blue and it came out today. I am very happy with the way the colors turned out.
Today we practiced using paper clay. I made a flower. It was easy to work with a small amount of clay. It was difficult to add detail though. I don't like working with paper clay... I am going to think about what I can make for my bigger project starting tomorrow.
Today I made the second piece of my tall project and connected the two. |
