This is a firm slab box that I created using clay. It is 3 inches by 3 and has different negative shapes on each wall. The lid is simple with a knob on top. One skill that I learned from this was how negative space can make something more interesting. One element that is most emphasized is shape. Throughout the box I used different shapes as my negative space to create a unique design. By adding circles, triangles, squares and hearts it helped enhance the use of negative space. By focusing on negative space and using shape I was able to turn a boring box into an interesting and unique box that catches the eye.

This is a coil pot that I made using clay. It is 6 inches tall and has a pot base with a pattern of coils as it goes up. One skill that I learned from my work was that it is important to make a wide base so as you build up it can be supported. I also learned that making the coils and connecting them should be done around the same time or the same day as when they dry they can break off. One element that I think is most emphasized in my work is balance. I feel like I did a good job of using a pattern so when you look over the piece it looks nice to the eye and balanced. By making sure to use a wide base and focusing on balance throughout my coil I was able to create a coil pot that looked pleasing and was interesting and unique. Although I had a hard time with this project(had to restart) I think it helped me learn how to create a better one. This is a soft slab mug that I made using clay. It is tall and has a nice handle that can fit most of your fingers. It has a heart design and says love on it. One skill I used while making this piece was precision. I made sure to focus on creating a uniform mug that was smooth and easy to hold. I also strongly used precision when making my handle because I wanted it to be comfortable to hold. One principle that is most emphasized in my work is form. The form of my mug allows for it to be used. If it was all bumpy and awkward to hold there would be no use of it. Because form is most emphasized in my work it allows it to be a useful mug. Using and focusing on precision and form allowed me to create a nice mug that I can use at home. It also helped me make something will be useful and is homeade. This is a pinch pot penguin that I created using clay. While working on this I used 3D to help make my creature more interesting. One element that I think is most emphasized in my work is shape. The first thing you notice when looking at it is the shape of the Penguins nose, eyes, and wings. Focusing on using 3D and shape I was able to turn a oval pot into an animal, thus making it look more interesting and unique. This is a self portrait that I drew using colored pencils. It is very colorful and realistic looking. I mainly used proportions during this project. I used this skill to help make my drawing look more realistic and life like. The principle that was most emphasized in my drawing was values. I had to use certain values of color to help make my drawing look more realistic especially because I wasn't using natural colors. I really had to focus on values when it came to adding details. Constantly making sure I was properly proportioning the parts of my face and being aware of values helped me make a good drawing. Overall paying attention to this principle aided me in creating a realistic looking self portrait. This is a painting of Mount Rainier. One skill I learned while making this was that starting from the background and working to the foreground made it way easier to layer colors and make things look more 3D. One element that was most emphasized in my work was depth. I really focused on making sure you could see the depth from the background to the foreground. Using depth allowed my artwork to seem more alive and realistic. These are two drawings focusing on perspective. One is an exterior perspective of the school and the other is an interior perspective of one of the hallways in the school. One skill I really had to focus on while doing the exterior drawing was accurate measurement. A skill that I had to work on while doing the interior one was making sure I captured the linear perspective that was present. The principle that was most emphasized between these two drawings were lines and shapes because that's what I had to make sure I was doing right while drawing. The principle of lines and shapes created a really neat and interesting perspective that I could put on paper and make look like the actual thing. This is a collection of shapes and forms that look similar to buildings or 3D objects. One skill that I used and learned as I created this piece was using a variety of shapes. I started out with squares but then as I went I would add or take away from them. One element that is most emphasized in my work is the use of shape. I created shapes using parallel lines and was able to make them look three dimensional. Using parallel lines and being able to consistently draw them parallel allows the shapes to change how they look and causes them to be more interesting. This is a group of squares, rectangles and triangles all connected. And in each shape I drew lines at an angle so that it appears to be spiraling as you draw them smaller. It looks as though there are curves yet I did not draw one curved line. I learned that straight lines and precision can create an illusion. Lines were the main focus for this work because I was repetitively drawing lines to create this piece. This skill created something new because it now looks as though the whole piece folds into each other and it also now looks curved. |
