This is a firm slab box that I created using clay. It is 3 inches by 3 and has different negative shapes on each wall. The lid is simple with a knob on top. One skill that I learned from this was how negative space can make something more interesting. One element that is most emphasized is shape. Throughout the box I used different shapes as my negative space to create a unique design. By adding circles, triangles, squares and hearts it helped enhance the use of negative space. By focusing on negative space and using shape I was able to turn a boring box into an interesting and unique box that catches the eye.

This is a coil pot that I made using clay. It is 6 inches tall and has a pot base with a pattern of coils as it goes up. One skill that I learned from my work was that it is important to make a wide base so as you build up it can be supported. I also learned that making the coils and connecting them should be done around the same time or the same day as when they dry they can break off. One element that I think is most emphasized in my work is balance. I feel like I did a good job of using a pattern so when you look over the piece it looks nice to the eye and balanced. By making sure to use a wide base and focusing on balance throughout my coil I was able to create a coil pot that looked pleasing and was interesting and unique. Although I had a hard time with this project(had to restart) I think it helped me learn how to create a better one. This is a soft slab mug that I made using clay. It is tall and has a nice handle that can fit most of your fingers. It has a heart design and says love on it. One skill I used while making this piece was precision. I made sure to focus on creating a uniform mug that was smooth and easy to hold. I also strongly used precision when making my handle because I wanted it to be comfortable to hold. One principle that is most emphasized in my work is form. The form of my mug allows for it to be used. If it was all bumpy and awkward to hold there would be no use of it. Because form is most emphasized in my work it allows it to be a useful mug. Using and focusing on precision and form allowed me to create a nice mug that I can use at home. It also helped me make something will be useful and is homeade. This is a pinch pot penguin that I created using clay. While working on this I used 3D to help make my creature more interesting. One element that I think is most emphasized in my work is shape. The first thing you notice when looking at it is the shape of the Penguins nose, eyes, and wings. Focusing on using 3D and shape I was able to turn a oval pot into an animal, thus making it look more interesting and unique. |
